Counterintuitive Facts (98): Why Does the Universe Look Like It Was Designed Just for You?
PremiumAnthropic Principle: It's not that the universe chose you. It's that you survived to see the universe
I. Physicists often marvel at the universe's Fine Tuning. If gravitational constant were slightly larger, universe would collapse right after big bang. If gravitational constant were slightly smaller, matter couldn't aggregate, stars couldn't form. If electromagnetic force were slightly stronger, atoms couldn't stably exist. If strong nuclear force were slightly weaker, elements beyond hydrogen wouldn't exist. If protons were slightly heavier than neutrons, all hydrogen would decay. No water. No life.
II. These physical constants seem precisely calibrated to the narrow range allowing life. How low is the probability? Some estimate: 10^(-500). This is several orders of magnitude lower than "a monkey randomly typing Shakespeare's complete works." This looks too coincidental!
III. Creationist
